Cosplay Confidential: Mike Hemmig
It’s always cool getting to interact in person with the CC profile subjects and I’ve had the pleasure of talking with this week’s profile on a few occasions. You may recognize him from that awesome Hercules cosplay he brought out at the New York Comic Con and as a big Silver Age fan, I’ve got a soft spot for Mike Hemmig’s work. You probably will be too after checking it out.
How did you get into cosplay? My oldest daughter Megan actually turned me on to it. Once I tried it, I was hooked
How long have you been doing it? I’ve been doing it for about three years now and I love it. I keep trying to improve each time I make a costume.
What was your first costume? My first costume was a Zombie Captain America.
It was a last minute decision, but I was pretty happy the way it turned out.
What was the hardest costume you’ve done? The Iron Duck all the way.
How much money do you typically spend on your outfits? It usually cost around 20 or 30 dollars. Not too bad.
What makes it so rewarding? Without a doubt the biggest reward is seeing a kid with a big smile on their face because they got to see their favorite hero. The kids make it all worthwhile.
Do you have a regular group you partner up with for costumes? Yes. That would be NJ BatSquad. Spider Denny and Bat Dave are two of the coolest guys I know. I make a lot of fan films with those two clowns. Check out their films on You Tube.
What would you say to people who have thought about doing cosplay, but haven’t quite worked up the nerve yet? Do it and have fun with it. Don’t take it too serious and don’t get wrapped up in the drama. Just enjoy it. You won’t regret it. Also take a friend to help with the costume. My daughter Nicole is a big help at the cons.
Do you have a website people can check out more of your costumes? Check out my group on Facebook. It’s called Old Farts Of Cosplay. It’s a fun group so don’t let the name fool you.
Thanks Mike! Know someone who you think would be a good profile subject for Cosplay Confidential? Hit me up at lylesmoviefiles@gmail.com
Really good Machine Man cosplay if you ask me. That character deserves more love. Great interview!
Yeah, that outfit was so impressive!
You’ve seen that Machine Man has a figure coming, right?
I did not know that. Good news.
That’s just gorgeous
Yeah, can’t wait to that add it to my collection!
