Lando Calrissian may be appearing in new Star Wars films after all
For many Star Wars fans, the official announcement of the cast was a welcome homecoming with the reveals that Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3-P0 were returning for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.’
Yet there was one major character missing — Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian, the former scoundrel turned Rebel Alliance general.
Williams expressed interest in returning to the Star Wars universe quickly after Episode VII was announced so it was a bit disappointing he wasn’t showing up in the first installment of the new trilogy with some worrying that Lando had been killed off. Thankfully it seems like those concerns were unfounded.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who also scripted Lando’s debut in ‘Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back,’ gave hope to Lando fans that we may be seeing the universe’s second best scoundrel in future films.
Kasdan said that, while the character doesn’t appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, “Lando, I don’t think, is finished in any way, shape, or form.”
