25 white comic book characters race swapped in movies and TV

Iris West The Flash comic book

Iris West (Candice Patton, The Flash)

While she may not be everyone’s favorite supporting character on CW’s new superhero darling, Iris is just as important to the Flash mythos as Lois Lane is to Superman or Alfred to Batman.

This race swap is arguably one of the most significant due to her connection to The Flash and for all the other progress on TV and movies, interracial comic book relationships are rarely shown. Patton has dealt with a lot of subtle racism with “fans” complaining about every little thing Iris does whether a one-off episode where Iris gets the power of The Flash or leading Team Flash. She’s endured a ton during her run on the series, but remains a key and pivotal character on the series.

Iris being black also led to another race swap with that of her brother — not nephew — Wally West as Kid Flash. The Flash never managed to use Flash’s sidekick properly, but it was fun seeing him in action all the same.
