Heimdall (Idris Elba, Thor)
Heimdall is the Asgardian early warning system. He’s the guard in essence, yet some folks found it absurd that the role on the big screen would be played by a black actor. Bizarrely, Elba found his casting a center of controversy for a franchise that once had Thor looking like this:
Elba discussed the insanity with Entertainment Weekly.
‘Thor has a hammer that flies to him when he clicks his fingers. That’s OK, but the color of my skin is wrong?’ Elba said. ‘I just had to comment on [the uproar] because I found it so ridiculous.’
Elba had less grief when playing Roque in The Losers, mainly because not a lot of folks bothered to see it. Heimdall has been a fairly featured player in the MCU.
He had a pivotal role in Thor: Ragnarok in keeping the Asgardians safe from Hela and while his time in Avengers: Infinity War was short, he had a meaningful role. Given how Infinity War played out, the best chance for future Heimdall appearances might be in the Loki Disney+ series.
