Tarzan meets Caesar in Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes

Over the last few years we’ve seen some inspired crossovers from Archie and The Punisher, Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Green Lantern and Star Trek, but this latest one almost makes too much sense for it not to have been thought of until now.

Dark Horse Comics, in partnership with BOOM! Studios is swinging Tarzan to the Planet of the Apes. Tim Seeley (Nightwing) and David Walker (Power Man and Iron Fist) are teaming on the script for the five-issue series that will be illustrated by Fernando Dagino (Suicide Squad) while Duncan Fegredo will be handling cover duties. The first cover reveal looks pretty stunning so I can’t wait to see how the rest unfold.

In this standalone story, Tarzan and his ape brother, Caesar, who were raised as brothers, but separated by slave traders, reunite when the war between man and ape takes them from the jungles of Africa to the center of the Earth.

Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes cover-min‘It’s a rare opportunity to get to work with two great properties, one great artist, and one hell of a co-writer, but Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes does just that for me,’ said Tim Seeley in a statement.

Planet of the Apes was crucial in sparking my imagination as a child, and remains my favorite film franchise of all time. The creative challenge of combining that world with Tarzan, and the opportunity to do so with a great co-writer, an amazing artist, and a supportive editorial team was an offer I couldn’t refuse,’ David Walker said in a statement.

The first issue arrives in comic book stores on Sept. 28.
