DC Comics reviews for week of 10/5/16 – Superman #8, Batman #8
Batman #8
Batman #8 was a marked improvement over the previous installments of the Monster Men saga. If the second half of this crossover is as enjoyable as this issue, it could ultimately prove a worthwhile and entertaining departure from Batman’s regular adventures.
The first three installments largely sang the same song. Hugo Strange’s monsters lumber through Gotham while Team Batman is powerless to stop them. Until now. A major reason for this issue turning the tide of this crossover was the Bat family finally going on the offensive. Writer Steve Orlando has done strong work juggling the characters and keeping their voices consistent with the regular writing teams.
Riley Rossmo’s art was also solid proving clearer glimpses of the action and not getting the characters lost among the monsters.
This was an encouraging issue. Initially this arc read like a time filler to let the creative teams catch their breaths. Now it’s starting to live up to its potential of the Bat family fighting Godzilla, King Kong and Morhra the same night.
