Figures Toy Company Q&A, the latest on FTC’s ROH, Rising Stars and Legends lines

You mentioned a classic manager you were trying to sign for the Legends of Professional Wrestling line. Paul Ellering recently showed up on NXT, was he the one you were referencing?

CD: That was JJ Dillon. We’d spoken with him as Jim Cornette reached out to him and told him about the Legends line. But I think he might be under a WWE Legends deal.

What’s the protocol on a guy like the late Mr. Fuji? He hasn’t had a Mattel figure. Could that even be a possibility?

We would reach out to the estate. With any kind of merchandise for Mr. Fuji, I have a feeling his family would want released from WWE.

There’s a slew of former WWE talent currently involved in a lawsuit against the company essentially blackballed from future merchandise like figures. Any interest in signing them to a Legends deal?

I try to keep up with what’s going on in wrestling so I am aware of that. A lot of those names (Barbarian, Warlord, Koko B. Ware) were already done by Jakks. But a guy like Shane Douglas would be high up on my list. He’s been requested by a lot of people. Someone like that would be a great addition to the line. We’ve got two more sets of legends in the works based on who I’ve talked to.

What’s the biggest challenge going forward?

CD: Production. We do have other things we have to get out in a timely manner for DC and KISS. It’s about what figures we want to get the big push and get out there.

We have a lot of people we signed. Any talent we’ve signed will definitely be coming out barring of course some type of tragedy. We’re looking at nine months to a year for a figure being announced to being on our website.

We have confirmed four ROH series lineups with series 5 in the early planning stages. There’s 25 contracted talent that we’ve either spoken to or in the process of getting signed. And three sets of Legends so we’re looking at over 50 guys coming out in the next year, year and a half. We feel like we’re in a really good groove now both with getting the figures done and getting people’s attention.

What’s your favorite figure so far?

CD: Delirious. The detail that went into ROH Series 2 as a whole has some of the best figures coming out right now. Bobby Fish has expression with the mouth guard showing … the design team is really starting to get on a roll. There’s another figure coming out that’s really going to wow people when they see it in the spring.

Definitely appreciate Chris taking the time out to talk with me about FTC’s wrestling lines.
