Marvel is absolutely not messing around when it comes to making sure Black Panther is a must-see blockbuster. Forest Whitaker is the latest prominent black star to join the cast. And he’s not the only one announced today.
I’ve been a fan of Whitaker for years. He’s the kind of star that lends serious credibility to any film he joins like the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. With Whitaker joining the cast, Black Panther has an Oscar winning Best Actor (Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland) and Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong’o, 12 Years a Slave).
Interestingly, that makes Black Panther the Marvel film with the most Oscar winning actors.
She was the Dora Milaje, Black Panther’s elite security force, that threatened Black Widow in Captain America: Civil War. Kaluuya will be playing W’Kabi, one of Black Panther’s confidants.
Black Panther comes to theaters on Feb. 16, 2018. I’m very excited about Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but I’m really starting to be be more anxious for 2018 with Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.
