DC Comics reviews for 11/9/16 – All-Star Batman #4, Wonder Woman #10, Flash #10

New Super-Man #5

For its first four issues, New Super-Man has been more of a breezy fun title. Issue 5 takes a more serious approach at just the right time without losing the charm that’s made this such a pleasant surprise.

After learning of his father’s involvement with the Freedom Fighters of China, Kong has a major decision — honor his family or turn on his new allies. Writer Gene Luen Yang doesn’t make this a simple choice and Kong has an understandable way to go with either option.

I’ve always gotten a little Invincible vibe from this title and Issue 5 really sealed that comparison. Beyond the family matters, Kong begins to learn the secret as to why his powers keep acting so erratic.

Artist Victor Bogdanovic remains solidly on point with his lively, bouncy style. Bogdanovic has a great sense of movement in his panels, which is definitely an asset for a more playful lead hero.

Yang is well on his way to crafting DC’s best kept secret with New Super-Man. This issue was another winner and doesn’t seem to offer any signs of a letdown yet.
