Misty Copeland doll to give Barbie collectors happy feet

Mattel just puts its Misty Copeland Barbie doll up for pre-order and it’s already proving to be a hot seller.

The doll is currently on back-order until January proving Mattel’s strategy in releasing dolls based on modern day historical figures like the Ava DuVernay doll was a smart move.

Copeland seems like a natural choice for a Barbie since Ballerina Barbie dolls remain a popular attire choice.

Glowing from the inside out, Misty Copeland is truly a bright shining star, paving the way for future dancers all over the world! Her fire red bodysuit, with sunburst orange tulle cutouts, stretches over her perfectly poised body, while layers of red and orange tulle tease a luxurious red tail. A vibrant tulle headpiece tops off her elaborate look, adding drama and flair.

I’d like to see a better likeness though. Beyond the elaborate attire, I’m not so certain folks would know this is a Misty Copeland doll. I really like the packaging though as it makes for a nice showcase. This might be a case where collectors buy two dolls so they can keep one on in display.

Retail price is $30, which isn’t bad. It’s probably a good idea for folks that are interested to go ahead and pre-order now before the initial backorder supply sells out.
