Check out Mattel’s WWE Retro style figures packaging

Mattel has been pretty creative with its handling of the WWE license. Sometimes that doesn’t always work out, but on others, it’s been really inspired. Chalk these WWE Retro figures up in the latter category.

I’m old enough to have fond memories of grabbing the original Hasbro WWF figures. What they lacked in functional articulation, they made up for with incredible likenesses and a deep roster. I really dig Mattel taking a throwback approach for old school collectors. For those of us who still have our Hasbro figures, we can finally add some new members to that collection.

WWE.com provided some in package pics of the WWE Retro line. In a very pleasant surprise, Mattel went the extra route to do a Hasbro style packaging for the figures. That’s a nice gesture and a great touch.

I’m definitely going to have to add the John Cena figure to my collection, but if the line goes beyond this initial series, Mattel might get me on the hook for another WWE line.
