To get a jump on its summer competitors, a new trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight debuted. There’s no indication if this will finally be Michael Bay’s swan song with the franchise. So don’t get too optimistic.
I’m not the biggest fan of this new trend of ‘spoiling’ Super Bowl commercials. It seems counter intuitive to pay millions of dollars for a commercial you’ll preview days earlier.
But let’s face it, at this point there’s a demographic that can’t wait for any glimpse of The Last Knight. And it’s not like seeing it before Sunday is going to kill any of their excitement. Old school Transformers fans aren’t likely to come around on the franchise at this point either, but at least Bay knows how to sell his films with these trailers to those on the fence and looking for a summer blockbuster.
Here’s the plot of this one:
The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.
Last Knight rolls out into theaters June 23.
