Justice League #15

Justice League #15 cover

Give Bryan Hitch credit for always trying to go big with Justice League. Nearly every story arc has him reaching for the stars in a misguided attempt at penning the next classic Justice League adventure. As Justice League #15 proves once again, Hitch only knows one way to write these stories and it’s still not clicking.

Going with his usual way to kick off these arcs, a mysterious entity or alien army is invading and the split up League has no clue what to make of it. Hitch isn’t altering his formula making it even more frustrating as it lacks any suspense, drama or storytelling structure.

The saving grace for Timeless is DC’s best kept secret superstar, Fernando Pasarin, handles the art. Pasarin might not be able to unravel Hitch’s overly complicated script, but at least the chaos looks spectacular. Brad Anderson’s colors pair impressively with Pasarin’s art resulting in the best drawn Justice League since this new era started.

Justice League #15 interior art

Hitch making wholesale changes to his storytelling format at this point seems unlikely. Justice League is going to solely be worth grabbing now for the art. Pasarin delivers in that regard, but Justice League remains one of the bigger disappointments of DC Rebirth.
