Tom Hardy trades his Bane mask to play Venom in Sony standalone
The Venom standalone movie has been discussed for a long time. Almost as soon as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released, Venom was mentioned as the next step in Sony’s Spider-Man franchise expansion. Now, there’s finally some movement on that front. Sony announced Tom Hardy will be playing Venom in the film.

As far as top tier actors capable of pulling off the role, there’s a short list…likely behind Hardy. He’s got the bulk and on-screen demeanor to tackle Eddie Brock.

I’m most interested in if this means Hardy will eventually battle Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. It seems obvious — maybe for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2?
Another big question is how Venom’s origin will be handled in this film. It would be weird for Brock to have always had the symbiote without Spider-Man having it first. That’s always been the case in comics and even the much maligned Spider-Man 3.
Either way this is a solid casting choice and now I’m very interested in this Venom standalone.
