Superhero Headlines for 6/18/17 – no Fantastic Four in MCU, Adam West’s final projects

Happy Father’s Day to all the great dads out there being awesome. Hope you get to enjoy your day. Looking forward to celebrating today with mine. Lots of interesting headlines for 6/18/17 with news on Justice League, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, X-Men and Deadpool 2.

Marvel

Avengers: Infinity War

Danai Gurira gets the big payday as she’ll bring her Black Panther character, Okoye, to the big Avengers film. That’s good news as that means Okoye will be a big player in Black Panther. And possibly suggest that Wakanda will be a key location in the film.

Fantastic-Four-Comic-Book

Don’t expect the Fantastic Four to show up anytime soon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or making a last minute appearance in Infinity War a la Spider-Man in Civil War. Kevin Feige chatted with website AlloCine about the possibility of the FF arriving in the MCU proper anytime soon.

‘[We have] no plans with the Fantastic Four right now. No discussions about it.’

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

I’m not even going to pretend to be excited about this one. FOX announced the latest chapter of the endless X-Men saga will indeed tackle the series’ most acclaimed storyline. Jessica Chastain is poised to star as the main villain, according to reports.

But most disappointingly, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence are set to return as well. That means the signature X-Men story will once again focus on Magneto and Mystique.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

While on the promotional circuit, Tom Holland spoke with AlloCine. There he dropped some a ‘minor’ announcement of the state of his Spider-Man franchise.

He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and… go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies… There will be a Spider-Man 2 and 3… Yeah, well now you know, sorry Marvel. Whoops!

I doubt anyone thought Holland’s Spider-Man was simply just going to have one standalone film. That was part of the factor for going with a younger actor for the role. It’s nice to hear the filmmakers have a plan for an arc though.

Hot Toys revealed its Spider-Man: Homecoming figure up for pre-order. It’s another terrific looking figure: Marvel Spider-Man Marvel Sixth Scale Figure

Sony is moving forward with its Venom spinoff and for now Feige says he won’t be part of the MCU. More than a lot of 90s characters Venom suffered from overexposure and there’s no real meaningful way to have him interact with the Avengers. If he’s paired with the Guardians of the Galaxy though, that could be pretty fun.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Speaking of the Guardians, James Gunn teased a possible new member of the team with the brand of the VCR pictured

Quasar is Wendell Vaughn, an Avenger who gains powers from Quantum Bands that make him one of the most powerful heroes in all of the galaxy. You can read more about Quasar in Annihilation: Book One, which helped lay the groundwork for the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Deadpool 2

Shioli Kutsuna Deadpool 2

Lots of news on this front. Shioli Kutsuna has been announced as part of the cast in an undisclosed role, according to Deadline.

Josh Brolin took to Instagram to show his Cable style haircut and his intense workout regiment. And to talk a little trash on co-star Ryan Reynolds:

A hint of things to come?

Agents of Shield and The Defenders

Cast members of The Defenders and Agents of SHIELD took part in a special photoshoot for Empire Magazine. Maybe you’ll recall when Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist took a picture back when Supergirl was on CBS and not CW like The Flash. I’ve gotta assume this isn’t just because everyone happened to be at the same place. Even if it was just Agent Coulson and Quake appearing on Defenders, that would be pretty cool.

DC

Justice League

Kiersey Clemons dropped a tidbit with Modeliste, that Iris West will make her DC Extended Universe debut in the film ahead of The Flash. A timeline for The Flash is up in the air right now since director Rick Famuyiwa left over the infamous creative differences. While it’ll be cool to see Iris show up, I hope Justice League doesn’t get too bogged down with character introductions and assembling the team that it doesn’t flow properly.

Ensuring all the various balls in the air make sense will likely be a key component of Joss Whedon’s rewrite and reshooting responsibilities. Whedon is completing the film Zack Snyder nearly completed before taking a break following his daughter’s suicide.  Justice League is still set for a Nov. 10 release.

A familiar Super Friends landmark might make an appearance in the film with what could be the Hall of Justice…

Batman vs Two-Face

Adam West has one more role left for us to appreciate. He and Burt Ward voiced Batman vs. Two-Face, the sequel to the excellent Return of the Caped Crusaders. William Shatner is going to be voicing Two-Face. This is probably going to be the next movie after Batman and Harley Quinn, which is set for Aug. 15.

West’s cameo in Powerless will also air despite the superhero spin-off getting axed by NBC. You can check out the episode here.

Valiant

I was a big fan of the Valiant comics line in the 90s. While I’ve fallen off, I’m glad to hear its cinematic universe is coming along. The latest news is Reginald Hudlin is going to direct Shadowman from a script by J. Michael Straczynski.

Shadowman seems like a nicely timed non-mainstream hero for a film. He is a black musician in New Orleans that gets supernatural powers after being infected by a spirit.
