Carnage joins Venom standalone, another Avenger in Spider-Man 2?

There’s no denying the fingerprint of Marvel Studios in Sony’s Spider-Man cinematic universe plans. If not outright, then the MCU outline is strongly being followed with Carnage and another Marvel Studios character crossing over.

The Hollywood Reporter states Carnage will be joining the Tom Hardy led Venom standalone, which is slated for Oct. 5, 2018. That makes sense as Venom is at best an anti-hero, but adding Carnage provides an outright villain with no moral complications.

THR also said Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will also feature a Marvel Cinematic Universe character that’s yet to be determined. It won’t be Iron Man though as Robert Downey Jr. is playing a pivotal role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. But who would make for a good co-star/ally for a Spider-Man film? Let’s break down some candidates:

Anthony Mackie as Falcon

Falcon – Anthony Mackie has already made a cameo in another MCU film flying in for a fun scene in Ant-Man. Depending on Homecoming 2’s release date, Chris Evans might be wrapped up playing Captain America in the MCU. And maybe it’s Homecoming 2 where we see Falcon’s Captain America get a showcase role following the events of Avengers: Infinity War?

Marvel Legends Captain Marvel figure review - charging up

Captain Marvel – We haven’t even seen Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers make her MCU debut in Avengers: Infinity War yet, but Captain Marvel would make for a solid Homecoming co-star. Carol’s strong military background would make for a fun contrast with the carefree Spider-Man and they could play off each other well.

Ant-Man as Giant Man

Ant-Man – The fun of seeing Ant-Man/Giant Man & Wasp teaming up with Spidey sounds like a dream pairing. Marvel has done a lot, but a superhero buddy comedy style flick could be amazing. This team-up could bring a heist element to Homecoming 2. Just make sure Michael Pena is along for the ride to tell some of his awesome stories.

The Hulk Spider-Man Homecoming 2

The Hulk – At one point, Spider-Man and The Hulk were Marvel’s two most prominent characters thanks to their TV shows. Hulk remains a character that probably works best paired off with another hero. While he’s in a co-starring role in Thor: Ragnarok, the Spider-Man/Hulk dynamic would be much different. Of all the possible combinations, this is the one I’m most excited about.
