Green Arrow #27

Green Arrow’s efforts to take down The Ninth Circle lead him to the haven of shady fat cats and underhand dealings — Washington, D.C.

With so much potential problems, Green Arrow gets some assist from not just The Flash, but Wonder Woman as well. One of the best elements of the Hard Traveling Hero arc is that it allows for natural cameos from other DC heroes. Writer Benjamin Percy has an easier time writing Wonder Woman than the occasional struggles with The Flash.

Green Arrow’s relationships with the Justice League members has largely been poorly detailed since New 52 started. If nothing else, I’m glad that Percy has this arc to re-establish those bonds and firmly place Green Arrow at the big heroes’ table.

At times, Percy has Green Arrow going overboard with his politics and desire for a better tomorrow. But that would be like complaining Flash runs too much or Green Lantern uses his power ring. Green Arrow doesn’t have super powers, but his convictions are his strength. And it’s nice to see Green Arrow back in his anti-establishment best. Black Canary and Emi are working on taking down the Star City branch of the Circle. Their appearance might be kinda random, but I’m glad Percy hasn’t abandoned them with the status quo change.

Jamal Campbell filled in on art this issue. Campbell’s style definitely falls in line with the series’ regular artists Juan Ferreyra and Stephen Byrne. I’ve always been a fan of Campbell’s expressive characters. At times, the panels are overly crowded making the action harder to follow. Campbell’s colors are slightly more muted than regular readers are used to, but

The Ninth Circle continues to be a worthy adversary for Green Arrow and their assaults in D.C. play out like a superhero version of House of Cards. Their trail takes Green Arrow to a somewhat obvious next destination, but it should be fun to see how this super interaction goes.
