DC Icons is dead long live DC Essentials
DC Collectibles has been quiet on the DC Icons front for a long time. Now we finally learn why. DC Icons is getting booted in favor of DC Essentials. IGN broke the news of this pretty exciting change in direction.
At first glance, DC Essentials looks to provide everything collectors wanted from DC Icons. Thigh articulation and more Marvel Legends style articulation overall. DC Collectibles revealed the first few figures featuring DC Rebirth looks for Batman, Aquaman, Superman, Green Lantern, Nightwing, Wonder Woman and Deathstroke.
The head sculpts could use some work, but otherwise this is a smart line reset. I like that DCC is emphasizing the DC Rebirth looks. As fond as I am of the classic looks, DC Rebirth has made for some great reading and this is a great way to capture that newfound interest in DC Comics.
One of the bigger questions I have is how DC Essentials will fit with the DC Icons line. Hopefully there’s some cohesion as it would be pretty crummy for people who grabbed the Icons line to have to start all over again.
‘DC Essentials will be an evergreen action figure line and will feature classic representations of DC Universe characters including Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, among others,’ said Jim Fletcher, Executive Creative Director, DC Collectibles.
According to IGN, the figures will be priced at $26 dollars and will go on sale in pairs starting in summer 2018 and going through 2019.
