Crosswind #4

Crosswind #4

It’s time for another cool breeze of refreshing comic book greatness with Crosswind’s latest issue. This book is like reading a guilty pleasure with none of the guilt. And writer Gail Simone and artist Cat Staggs are jockeying for my current favorite creative team slot.

Things have heated up for Cason and Juniper while they’re in each other’s bodies. Cason had been running around with Cruz’s girlfriend, Mika, and now it’s time for some action. Naturally this makes Juniper a little weirded out and she’s experiencing feelings and new sensations she’s never experienced before. Good thing she’s got Cason calling in her body to help her navigate through tricky moments like cooling down.

Cason’s segments are equally entertaining as the hit man decides he needs to put a little effort into this whole housewife gig.
Simone subtly works in further diversity with June’s transgender neighbor. I like that Simone spent half a panel on the exchange and not making a big deal of this ‘reveal.’

Staggs’ incredible artwork continues to be the best in the business right now. The pencil and inking is solid, but it’s the mesmerizing colors that really make it special. But neither Cason or Juniper know that Cruz is setting him up and received permission to whack him.

But if Cason gets killed, will Juniper or Cason die? That should prove an interesting question if Simone decides to pursue it. For now, I’m happy to enjoy every issue as I know it’s going to provide some genuine laughs and surprisingly heartfelt moments.I’ll keep saying this until everyone checks this out, but Crosswind is a blast and a thoroughly enjoyable comic worth your attention. –Jeffrey
