For a lot of fans, the news of Disney buying Fox has them thrilled at the prospect of Wolverine joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Years ago, Wolverine star Hugh Jackman seemed keen on the idea of having some impossible crossover with Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. Or slashing it up with the Hulk. But now with the X-Men and Wolverine finally on the verge of playing in the MCU sandbox, he’s ready to hang up his claws.
‘It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an ‘Avengers’ movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head,’ Jackman told Collider. ‘But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.’
Jackman has been a pretty amazing Wolverine. He’s been almost good enough to overlook he’s nothing at all like his comic book counterpart who’s short and Canadian. It’s looking like this will be one of the great what-ifs in comic book movie history. On the bright side, at least the X-Men and Avengers and Fantastic Four can be in the same cinematic universe.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has shown a real knack for casting dynamite new additions to the MCU from Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange or Tom Holland as Spider-Man.
Feige will have his work cut out for him in casting someone to make fans forget about Jackman’s take on Wolverine. The one benefit Feige had with Spider-Man was people already got the ‘he’s not the old guy!’ out of the way with Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man series. That’s going to be tough considering Jackman played the character in 10 films.
A while ago, I had a few suggestions as to who could play Wolverine. Maybe some of these guys could work?
