Mister Miracle #5
By this point you know what you’re getting with Mister Miracle. Another installment of the comic you need to be telling all your friends about. This issue is just another excellent reminder why you’ve made the right call in already being on board without prompting.
Sentenced to execution by Orion, Scott Free has one day left on Earth. And how does he spend it? In traffic, because the great irony of life is some of those precious moments are stuck looking at tail lights. It’s another in a series of clever moments in this latest chapter from writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads.
King is using a very non-traditional writing style beyond the exchanges between Scott and Barda with the still to be revealed narrator. The interplay with Scott and Barda has always been strong, but is a definite highlight of this issue.
It’s amazing how effectively Gerads uses this nine panel layout. For some artists, this would be incredibly restrictive, but Gerads keeps finding new ways to make this such a fresh experience. The color choices are on point as well making for a stunning presentation.
There’s really not a lot that needs to be said with this book. King and Gerads continue to surprise and this issue was everything right with this series. It’s worth all the hype and then some.
