Batman #37
Batman & Catwoman and Superman & Lois Lane go on a double date at a fair…on superhero costume night. If that didn’t immediately pique your interest check your pulse.
Writer Tom King seems to have just as great an appreciation for Superman as he does Batman. King devotes most of the issue to highlighting the differences between the two — Batman has a decidedly more interesting run through the tunnel of love — and surprising similarities like costume hygiene. And as great as watching Batman and Superman be regular dudes for a change, it’s the immediate bond between Lois and Catwoman that proves the issue’s best highlight. There’s just so many great moments in this issue spoiling it wouldn’t be fun.
Clay Mann delivers another terrific looking issue and he’s got a great comprehension on the physical differences between the characters. That’s especially important here. While there’s only one ‘action’ scene, Jordie Bellaire’s colors continue to be amazing as well.
The only bad thing? That the issue inevitably had to end. But hopefully King and Mann are already plotting their next collaboration to focus on Bruce’s bachelor party.
