Like a lot of comic readers in their 30s and 40s, we know all about Dungeons & Dragons. Whether from playing it, collecting the action figures or watching the cartoon. IDW Publishing rarely misses a chance to tap into readers’ nostalgic side and announced a new Dungeons & Dragons series, Evil at Baldur’s Gate, will be starting in April.
Jim Zub (Samurai Jack, Avengers) will be writing the series and will be joined by a series of artists including Dean Kotz (Charmed Season 9), Steven Cummings (Wayward), Harvey Tolibao (Green Arrow), Ramon Bachs (X-Men) and Francesco Mortarino (Jupiter’s Circle). Gears of War artist Max Dunbar will be handling the cover art.
IDW announced the series will incorporate the artists in a unique manner. Each artist will take on an issue spotlighting a different hero.
‘Dungeons & Dragons sparked a lifelong desire to create stories in me that’s never really gone away,’ Zub said in a statement. ‘Dungeons & Dragons is all about exploration and engaging the unknown that lurks around every corner. I love the feeling of exploration that sword & sorcery stories provide. Evil At Baldur’s Gate is our fourth D&D mini-series with this cast and is a great way to jump on board and join in the adventure!’
Here’s the synopsis:
The Baldur’s Gate heroes return to the city at last, but their time adventuring in Ravenloft and the frozen northern reaches of the Realms has changed them. Each of them must face great trials ahead before they’ll be ready to embrace their destiny. Minsc, Krydle & Shandie, Delina, Nerys Kathon, and Boo will all take center stage throughout this series. While it does continue Zub’s run on D&D, each story is self-contained and so fans can jump on board anywhere and introduce themselves to this beloved cast of characters.
