DC Comics reviews for 2/14/18
Dark Nights Rising: The Wild Hunt #1
The fun with The Wild Hunt is never knowing where the story is going to go. Scott Snyder keeps finding new imaginative areas to explore and this time he’s bringing along fellow writers James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson and oh yeah, some guy named Grant Morrison.
This issue is more nuts than Metal and that’s a major compliment. Longtime DC readers will see the influence of 52, the landmark DC series, with the tone and involvement of some key characters and locations. There’s also some key connections to Final Crisis, another of Morrison’s most acclaimed works. I’d recently reread it but it might be worth checking it out to get a core component of the story.
They throw a real monkey wrench into expectations featuring a character who hasn’t been a major player in Metal so far and the reveal of something that could change the multiverse.

The art team is top tier with Howard Porter, Doug Mahnke and Jorge Jimenez with Jamie Mendoza on inks. These artists have different styles so it’s not the smoothest transitions during the switches. That doesn’t matter too much since they handle pages in bulk instead of swapping out every 2-3 pages.
This issue is not going to play out at all like you’ll expect and that’s the beauty of it. At times we get a little too caught up in figuring out where a story is gonna go and deciphering every panel. That’s not necessary here. This is all about sitting back and enjoying the crazy ride. It won’t disappoint.
