Hal Jordan and
the Green Lanterns Corps #38

After arriving on a planet under the control of General Zod and his family, Hal and Kyle have to alert their fellow Lanterns. But first, they’ve got to survive their escape efforts.

Last issue, writer Robert Venditti had Hal acting and sounding a little out of character. Granted, he’s always had Hal react first, strategize third or fifth, but immediately trying to take on a family with the same powers as Superman was crazy. It’s the kind of half-cocked decision that would make more sense coming from Guy Gardner. Fortunately, Venditti has Hal come up with a plan this time even if the results are largely the same. I really like this set-up though as Zod and crew make for very formidable opponents for the entire Corps.

Ethan Van Sciver’s art seemed a little off this issue. The line work seemed softer especially in the facial areas. Overall, it wasn’t his usual high quality effort. Jason Wright’s colors were solid as usual with the strong blacks and beautiful hue of green.

This storyline has a ton of potential and I’m enjoying how Venditti immediately stacked the deck against the Corps. It’s been a fun ride so far and I’m anxious to see where the story goes next to even the odds for Hal and company.
