The Flash #40

the flash #40 cover

Perfect Storm’s second chapter set in motion a long time coming for Flash fans. It represents what could be a major turning point in the book or at least for an exciting arc. Either way, writer Joshua Willamson, artist Carmine Di Giandomenico and colorist Ivan Plascencia put together another highly entertaining issue. When this trio is together, The Flash always races to a new gear and a great story.

Gorilla Grodd has been revealed as the leader of Black Hole and he wants something very near and dear to Barry Allen. While Barry is willing to help his old foe, Grodd isn’t the patient type and forcibly takes it. And if Barry can’t take care of the problem, who else can he turn to?

Di Giandomenico’s art is as exhilarating as always. His pages never seem flat or stiff and there’s this vibrant flow in every panel. Di Giandomenico’s pages might not be as highly detailed as some of his peers like Jason Fabok or Ivan Reis, but that’s not as important on The Flash. It’s all about the speed and movement and Di Giandomenico covers that better than anyone. Plascencia’s colors always light up the pages and look amazing.

I’m really enjoying being swept away in this Perfect Storm. This looks like it could be an arc Flash fans are talking about for months and possibly years to come.
