Toy Fair 2018: New additions to DC Essentials action figure line
Like a lot of collectors, I was disappointed with DC Collectibles’ decision to drop DC Icons and swap it out with DC Essentials. But with two big announcements today, it looks like DC Collectibles is serious about putting real effort into the line.
In advance of Toy Fair, DCC revealed a sizzle reel of new statues, busts, collectibles and action figures.
The DC Essentials line already got its first big coup with the reveal of Doomsday Clock figures based on the Gary Frank and Geoff Johns story.
Additionally, we learned Aquaman’s arch-foe Black Manta and one of Superman’s biggest villains, Braniac, are also coming to DC Essentials this September.
I like these announcements as DC Icons never had a release layout that seemed to factor in a basic hero and villain setup. With the previously revealed Flash and Reverse Flash and Batman and Deathstroke, all of the heroes have someone to battle. It’s not quite the Legion of Doom, but it’s almost matched up DC Icons villain roster of Lex Luthor, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Atomica, Black Adam, Deathstroke, Doomsday and Darkseid & Grail.
