The Flash #42

Perfect Storm hits it’s fourth chapter as Barry Allen takes a risky approach to regain his powers and the rest of Team Flash battles Gorilla Grodd’s minions.

I really like the dynamic writer Joshua Williamson has set up with Wally West stepping in for Barry while Kid Flash and Avery encounter Grodd’s most trusted lackey. Williamson doesn’t shortchange Grodd and sets up his current plight to be both sympathetic and dangerous.

And when Barry starts making questionable choices, Williamson smartly has characters calling him out.

The art is a little underwhelming this issue. Dan Panosian takes the art responsibility. Panosian does a very solid job with perspectives and shadows, but his characters occasionally look too blocky. Streamlined characters always look best on this title.

Perfect Storm has been a fun read so far and issue 42 kept the momentum rolling.
