Wonder Woman #42

Wonder Woman #42 didn’t feature any major advancements on the Amazon Attacked story, but it felt like the book finally has a strong direction.

Writer James Robinson doesn’t craft some new twist and it’s basic, but now the distractions are out of the way and Wonder Woman vs. Darkseid Round 2 is clearly being laid out. Jason has returned with a magic suit of armor and new abilities along with a mystery that can get solved at a later date. For now the more immediate problem is stopping Darkseid and his daughter, Grail.

It’s nice to have Wonder Woman slugging away with someone more on her power level so action sequences between the two rarely disappoint.

I think Robinson was going for an homage to Jack Kirby with the stilted dialogue in the Jason vs Deep Six battle, but having Jason and Diana ridicule their speech pattern made it come off weird.

Jesus Merino’s art looked terrific. Whether it was the heavy action focus or just a clear understanding of Robinson’s vision, Merino really did outstanding work in laying out clean and detailed work.

Wonder Woman has kinda been blowing in the wind lately, but this issue was encouraging that Robinson can get things back on track sooner than later.
