Superman #43
Just when I thought Superman couldn’t get any more fun, Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason do it again. Again in this case means, finding fresh ways to make Superman (and family’s) adventures so consistently charming.
This issue, Tomasi and Gleason continue the Bizarroverse arc with Boyzarro coming to Earth. Unlike his father, he wants a much different relationship with his counterpart making for surprisingly sweet interactions with Jon. Tomasi and Gleason have this knack for making Jon sound and act like a child instead of how adults think children behave. There’s a constant naive mentality that most children have that make his actions endearing instead of frustrating.

Gleason’s art really makes me wish he had been able to draw more frequently on the book. His pages looks terrific. I always love how he makes Superman look like a super man and Jon so wide eyed and child like.
The final page features an out of nowhere surprise that I didn’t see coming whatsoever. Next issue is going to be a lot of fun with the new arrivals teased this issue.
I don’t want to ruin all the surprises and cameos this issue. Tomasi and Gleason are putting out all stops to ensure that their final arc is just as memorable as any other one on their run. I’m not happy they’re leaving, but they certainly are making this the perfect cap to their terrific take on Superman.
