Batman #44

batman 44 variant

Can a cat(woman) truly change? That’s the question Tom King asks in a prelude to Batman and Catwoman’s wedding.
As their big day is fast approaching, Selina realizes she needs to settle on a dress. While King no doubt would have made the somewhat cliche girls day at the bridal shop fun — Lois Lane, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy would have made that a blast — there’s some things Selina has to do on her own in her own way.

King rarely likes sticking to a traditional storytelling format and his approach this time is pretty inspired taking readers through a brief timeline of Batman and Catwoman’s unique relationship. My favorite aspect of the issue was how King worked in the various attires Batman and Catwoman have had over the years right down to a trunks sighting.

Aiding in the fun is the artistic dream team of Joelle Jones, who handles the present day story, while Mikel Janin takes the flashback sequences. Jordie Bellaire provides the exquisite colors to complete the beautiful presentation.

These lead-ins to the wedding look to be very special fan service stories. King gets the ball rolling nicely with this clever and fun story that stays true to his starring couple.
