The Flash #44

flash 44

Perfect Storm wraps up in a very fitting manner for one of the original creative team’s final collaborations. Joshua Williamson clearly wrote this finale with artist Carmine Di Giandomenico and colorist Ivan Plascencia’s strengths in mind as this is an emotional and gorgeously illustrated issue.

Team Flash — Barry, Wally, Wallace, Meena, Avery and Godspeed — has to take drastic measures to stop Gorilla Grodd from destroying Central City. Williamson has created a Team Flash in a way that feels right. He developed the concept in a different manner than the TV show and he set it up so this is a before the last resort for The Flash. These guys won’t likely show up every issue, but now Barry has a superhero support system outside of the Justice League when he needs help.

One of the best things to happen out of Rebirth was Di Giandomenico’s revelatory take on The Flash. His art is so stunning and energetic. There’s some really outstanding pages with Flash taking on Grodd that makes this issue worth picking up alone to see.

The cliffhanger already has me amped up for where Williamson is taking the title next. Flash keeps rolling strong and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
