Green Lanterns #46
Ghost of the Past has allowed writer Tim Seeley to explore a different side of Jessica Cruz. One that’s not so timid and fearful. In peeling back her greatest fear, Seeley is setting up a very intriguing, potentially lasting shift in the Baz and Cruz dynamic. After nearly two years of the unassuming Cruz, this shift is piquing my interest.
Baz is inside the power ring trying to help Cruz from her greatest fear while John Constantine is helping him navigate through this perilous path. As for the Justice League? They can only sit back and hope Baz can get to Cruz in time while he confronts his own dark side.
This is a fun premise and suggests Seeley didn’t need to play the Green Lanterns so lighthearted earlier in his run. He shows this is a book that works better as more of a straight action adventure sci-fi title as opposed to one with a more comedic slant.
Ken Marion is showing some major improvement with his pencils. His work on character faces isn’t quite there yet, but it’s getting better from this point last year. Colorist Dinei Ribeiro also did some very solid work.
I like where Green Lanterns is heading and I’m looking forward to seeing how this arc continues to play out.
