DC Comics reviews for the week of 5/2/18

Nightwing #44

As a big fan of writer Benjamin Percy’s Green Arrow run, I had high expectations for his start on Nightwing. This was a nice lateral move as far as superheroes go. Nightwing and Green Arrow are street level vigilantes and their villains are plotting to take over cities not galaxies.

First impression? The title is in great hands as Percy quickly assures he’s got a strong handle on Dick Grayson.
A serious of bombs are going off in Bludhaven and the connecting thread is mobile devices. Dick has to investigate the source of this terror attack and its likely connection to new tech that’s cropping up throughout the city.

Artist Chris Mooneyham is a big departure from some of the previous Nightwing artists. Mooneyham doesn’t have the stylish flair of a Javier Fernandez or Bernard Chang, but his style is more of a Neal Adams or Klaus Janson throwback that fits this title well.

This new creative team definitely seems synced in on how to make a compelling Nightwing arc. This issue’s cliffhanger promises some wild developments and a fun ride that’s only just getting started.
