Justice League: No Justice #4

Issue #3 thankfully proved to just be an anomaly as the final chapter in No Justice ending May’s major DC event on a high note. A big reason for that is the return of artist Francis Manapul, who handles the entire 21 page issue.

With Colu destroyed by the Omega Titans, the assembled heroes and villains have to prevent the same tragedy from occurring on Earth. The mismatched groups have to do their part while Green Arrow and Amanda Waller get some unexpected help on the planetary defense front.

I loved that this series prominently featured Green Arrow and made him a major player. Midway through there’s a reference to Green Arrow Annual #2. Thanks to the comprehensive nature of that story, it’s best to not stop and immediately read that book, but read it after completing this issue.

Writers Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson and James Tynion IV wrap everything up nicely in setting up the foundation for the various Justice League titles and establishing a pair of new villains. One we already knew about based on early solicitations of upcoming titles and the other seems poised to be a very compelling change in agendas for the other.

On some pages, Manapul’s art looked a bit rushed and rough almost like he got some assistance on some panels/pages or inking help. That wasn’t a big distraction as the art otherwise looked terrific. Another big question is what regular book is Manapul working on next?

It’ll be fun seeing these relationships explored further in the next slate of Justice League book. The only significant cliffhanger aspect to the issue is the fate of characters from Justice League of America and Teen Titans who don’t have a slot lined up in the new team books. And will other characters be affected for the better by rubbing shoulders with the (pun slightly intended) big Leagues.

No Justice accomplished its goal of having me stoked for all of these Justice League titles, Teen Titans and Titans books to come. This sets DC up on a very secure foundation to immediately restore its team book to their previous glory days. It’s a good time to be a fan of group books in the DC Universe.
