Nightwing #46

nightwing 46

I’m kinda digging what’s going on right now in Nightwing. Initially, this technological storyline felt a little slow to get going, but writer Benjamin Percy is moving things along nicely now and its gaining momentum. Even moreso with a guest appearance from Batgirl.

If DC is going to do more with the Dick and Barbara relationship, it’s time to see more of them interacting. Not necessarily teaming up each issue, but just being around each other more often. Wyrm is a unique villain for Nightwing and Percy is still fleshing out its abilities. The arc is reaching the point where Nightwing needs to start turning the tide, but Percy has long ago earned my trust after his fantastic run on Green Arrow. I’ll trust his process.

The verdict’s still out for me with artist Chris Mooneyham. His style is very vintage and with inking from Klaus Janson and Scott Hanna, there’s definitely a Frank Miller, John Romita Jr. look to his pages. Mooneyham’s Nightwing doesn’t seem as fluid and graceful as other artists who’ve handled the character, but I still like his work.

Nightwing is starting to find its way again after some earlier hiccups. Percy and Mooneyham are getting into a groove and it’s making for an engaging work in progress. The end result could prove to be something special.
