Outside of that whole killing General Zod thing, fans and critics seemed to take to Man of Steel pretty well. That’s why it’s been pretty surprising we still haven’t seen a Man of Steel 2 yet. Sure, we’ve seen Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, but it’s not the same. That’s especially obvious now that Warner Bros. is hard at work on Wonder Woman’s sequel Wonder Woman 1984.
While it’s seemingly still in limbo, star Henry Cavill shared his hopes for the sequel while making promotional rounds for Mission: Impossible – Fallout. In an interview with Fandom, Cavill talked the villain he wants to see Superman battling.
‘I think a great villain would be Brainiac,’ Cavill said. ‘That’d be a good villain to play against…Brainiac’s a big threat. There’s a lot of fun. There’s a lot to him, there’s a lot of storylines to him.’
I thought Cavill’s response about playing Evil Superman like in Superman III was interesting. It seems like Cavill subtly suggested that the version of Superman he’s played on the big screen isn’t his ideal take on the character.
‘I would be very keen for the opportunity to play classic comic Supes before playing evil…in the comic books, there’s a lot of really, really good stories about Supes being the classic hero, a real beacon of hope and the shining light for everyone to aspire towards. It’d be a lot of fun to play that version of Supes.’
What do you think? Ready for Man of Steel 2 and who would you like to see Superman battle?
