Green Lanterns #53
Dan Jurgens revealed the big bad of Evil’s Might and it was a fitting and worthwhile payoff to this arc where the Lanterns can’t even trust their rings.
This reveal actually makes sense in both current and past continuities as this adversary has become an increasingly bigger threat to the Green Lantern Corps. And this villain is far more compelling than the seemingly unbeatable spam character Eon.
While he’s got all of the Lanterns Corps to juggle, Jurgens is doing a solid job of continuing to give Baz and Cruz prominent moments each issue. Baz has a key role this issue, which may cause some major problems for his fellow Corpsmen.
Marco Santucci’s art is improving. There’s a softness to characters that is apparent, but the action sequences are well laid out. As always with Green Lantern, I’d like to see more creativity with the Lantern constructs beyond Kyle Rayner, but that’s a smaller scale issue. Santucci seems like a good fit for the book and hopefully he’ll be able to stick around on the title long enough to firmly get a hold on the various possibilities with the characters.
Green Lanterns has weathered the creative team carousel well and with Jurgens at the helm, the action and stakes has greatly improved. Next issue is sure to be incredible based on this cliffhanger.
