Justice League #6
Scott Snyder has another doozy of an installment for Justice League fans. This issue finds the League fighting a losing battle against the Legion of Doom. And the only thing left to do? Take the loss and hope for the best.
But before then, the League has to take some hard bruises and humiliating defeats. I love that feeling that the League is being tested by the evil counterparts and don’t necessarily have all the answers. Snyder gives Hawkgirl some spotlight moments this issue. The challenge for Snyder will be juggling all the characters. Aquaman and Wonder Woman didn’t have a lot to do this time despite being prominently featured on the cover.
Artist Jorge Jimenez can no longer be classified as an underrated talent. He’s seizing this moment and creating some of the best work of his career. Jimenez has such a lighthearted and inviting style that his Joker is jarring. It’s nightmarish, creepy and unsettling. His take on the character is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Jimenez’s take on Martian Manhunter, Gorilla Grodd and Sinestro in particular are full of character and personality. Alejandro Sanchez’s color work is gorgeous and a great complement to Jimenez’s pencils.
Snyder packs a killer cliffhanger this issue — one that could potentially open up a whole new realm of possibilities not just for Justice League, but the DC Universe as a whole.
