Wonder Woman #53
I’ll just be honest here, for most of this issue I had no clue what was going on, but it was a crazy and unpredictable ride. That’s probably all I could expect from an arc where Wonder Woman, Artemis and Aztek are in a clash with Tezcatlipoca in the Thirteen Heavens. Seriously, this kind of spectacle is everything that makes comics so much fun to read.
Steve Orlando writes this issue with a sense of flying by the seat of his pants, but never wavering from the final destination. That’s a trait that was in short supply on his Justice League of America run.
Aco handles most of the art with assists from Hugo Petrus. The art is sprawling, massive with unique layouts and detail. Inker David Lorenzo and colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. were busy this issue, but their hard work paid off.
At this rate, I’m kinda pulling for more Orlando Wonder Woman stories in the future even when his run on the main title is done. Thankfully his run isn’t done yet as this arc takes a new twist. I’m not sure where Orlando is going with it, but I’m definitely enjoying the ride.
