Easily one of the best parts of Supergirl’s second season was Tyler Hoechlin’s portrayal of Superman. Hoechlin brought a genuinely classic take on the character that’s largely been absent in the movie version.
It was a little disappointing then that Hoechlin’s Superman was nowhere to be found on Supergirl’s third season. Even as Supergirl fought World Killers that could have potentially destroyed the planet.
Thankfully, Hoechlin’s Superman will be returning in a big way in this year’s Arrowverse crossover. And he won’t be alone. Lois Lane will make her Arrowverse debut in the big three part saga, which will also introduce Ruby Rose’s Batwoman. Hoechlin and the still to be cast Lois Lane will be appearing in all three episodes of the crossover. That more than makes up for the Legends of Tomorrow crew being sidelined for the event. Though I am a bit disappointed we won’t get a Superman team up of Hoechlin and Brandon Routh in his new alter ego of Atom.

‘We couldn’t be more excited to introduce Lois Lane to the Arrowverse,’ Supergirl EPs Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner told Deadline Hollywood. ‘This dogged, determined and brave reporter will make for a strong partner to Superman and amazing addition to our universe of DC characters.’
I’m a little worried about how the Arrowverse will tackle Lois Lane as the creators tend to switch up unnecessary aspects of characters for the sake of being different. Maybe Lois runs The Daily Planet and Perry White is the top reporter? But maybe they’ll treat Lois as classic as they did Superman. I can only hope.
While I wasn’t a big fan of the costume, Hoechlin was great as Superman and this is easily my most anticipated block of episodes for this upcoming season. The Arrowverse got real shaky last season, but this is more than enough reason to be optimistic.
The crossover kicks off on Dec. 9 with The Flash followed by Arrow on Dec. 10 and Supergirl on Dec. 11.
What do you think? Are you excited about the news that Superman will be back in the Arrowverse? What threat could be big enough to bring out DC’s ultimate main gun? And why are still waiting on a Wonder Woman and Batman appearance in the Arrowverse?
