Happytime Murders full of fluff, no bucks as Crazy Rich Asians repeats atop box office
The puppets of The Happytime Murders couldn’t cash out Crazy Rich Asians as the rom com blinged out the box office crown for a second week.
Crazy Rich Asians continued its impressive box office run with $25.9 million. With this week’s haul, the film has easily made back its $30 million production budget. It stands at $77 million now and seems a lock to cross $100 million in the next few weeks.
The Meg kept eating with $13.1 million to take its tally to $105.3 million.
The news wasn’t as good for The Happytime Murders. The puppets meets humans murder noir comedy failed to fluff up much interest. It debuted in third place with a dreadful $10.1 million debut.
With a $40 million production budget, this might have a hard time recouping its budget as it doesn’t seem like an obvious winner overseas either.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout claimed the fourth spot with $8.1 million to hit $194 million in its fifth week.
Christopher Robin added another $6.4 million to take its total to $78 million and round out the top 5.
