After the intense final act of Avengers: Infinity War and the lighthearted Ant-Man and The Wasp, I was very interested in how Marvel Studios would approach its next film. We got some clues with the arrival of the first Captain Marvel trailer.
Unlike some of the others I came away from this one not so much hyped, but very intrigued. Carol Danvers is one of Marvel’s best female characters and the comic side has worked overtime to establish her as the alpha female. I’ve always been a Storm guy myself, but Captain Marvel has been pretty close.
On first glance the Captain Marvel trailer shows the film is taking cues from Thor. Unlike Iron Man and Captain America: The First Avenger, this isn’t a standard origin film. That’s the smart approach since the film is covering a lot of ground to link Captain Marvel with Nick Fury, Coulson and the Kree/Skrull War.
The shot of Carol punching that nice lady? A nice tease that Captain Marvel can see through Skrull hiding among humans.

Brie Larson doesn’t seem to show much of the abrasive attitude we’ve seen from Carol in the comics lately. That take on the character would interact very interestingly with Benedict Cumberbatch’s prickly Doctor Strange and Robert Downey Jr’s arrogant Iron Man.
After the trailer I’m definitely ready for more. It already seems like it’s going to be a long wait between now and March 8.
