Batman #56
Try and kill Batman’s adopted son and he’ll stop at nothing to find you even if you’re the KBeast.
Tom King has written several sides to Batman over these 56 issues, but we haven’t seen this dangerously focused on one objection version yet.
This Batman doesn’t care what obstacle he has to go through be it a cadre of ninjas, New Gods, the elements or an isolated hideout, he’s coming for The Beast.
While Batman is on the hunt, KGBeast confronts his own monster in a personal side story that shows he’s preparing for a final confrontation in his own way.
Tony S. Daniel is always a welcome sight handling the art on Batman. He draws a leaner yet just as ferocious Dark Knight and he pencils incredibly active fight sequences. King has worked with a lot of artists on his run, but few fit King’s take on Batman as well as Daniel.
Tomeu Morey has steadily improved over the year with his coloring and they’re now at the point where they can effectively convey the tone without dialogue.
Since the controversial issue 50, Batman has arguably been better than before. King has some lofty ideas that are putting his hero through the emotional wringer resulting in some of his best work on the series. The ending of this issue sets up a showdown that’s playing out like a revenge thriller.
