Deathstroke #36
Slade Wilson just might be losing his mind, which is why it’s a good thing he’s at Arkham Aslyum.
Deathstroke has found a number of challenging opponents, but a battle inside his head proves very compelling this issue.
Stemming from last issue, writer Priest takes Deathstroke to a fresh battlefield where he takes virtual therapy sessions with some of Batman’s deadliest Rogues…and Shape Man.
In true Priest fashion, it’s the latter who proves most useful in Slade’s escape even if that makes the situation far worse.
Ed Benes and Fernando Pasarin share art duties this issue. Pasarin needs a regular book ASAP as he’s a immensely skilled talent that needs more than spot duty. He handles most of the art while Benes contributes a strong action packed opening act.
Jeromy Cox’s color work is very vibrant in the normal settings and far darker during the therapy sessions, which makes sense for Slade’s view on them.
Only the Rose subplot fails to accomplish much, but a tease suggests next issue could be important for her own breakthrough.
Deathstroke remains a fun and unpredictable title as Priest shines in his creative take on the character. The issue ends with a wild cliffhanger proving that Priest isn’t done shaking up expectations.
