Yeah, this seemed pretty obvious, but so did Creed II. Ryan Coogler has agreed to both direct and write the screenplay for the Black Panther sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news with sources indicating Coogler is working on the sequel sooner than later. Apparently he’ll start working on the sequel to the third highest grossing domestic film of all-time next year.
Marvel Studios and Coogler are sticking to a pretty common release schedule for the company’s biggest hit. Production is expected to start late 2019 or early 2020. That would put the Black Panther sequel on track for a 2021 release. It’s been a while since Marvel Studios announced a big release slate for its future lineup. All we know for sure that’s coming is Captain Marvel, Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The Black Panther sequel might be the most highly anticipated of the next round of sequels. With most of the original Avengers cast completed their Marvel Studios’ contractual obligations, Black Panther and Captain Marvel are expected to be key franchises in their solo films and future Avengers installments.
Coogler isn’t twiddling his thumbs in the interim as he’s teaming with his longtime collaborator Michael B. Jordan for Wrong Answer and is the executive producer of Space Jam 2 starring LeBron James.
