Spoilers off.

Wow. Rick did not die. I was dreading this episode all weekend, but the showrunners didn’t disappoint. Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes is in fact leaving The Walking Dead, but not the series’ universe.

On The Talking Dead we learned that Lincoln will be starring in a series of AMC Studios’ original films. Scott M. Gimple, the longtime showrunner, will be writing the films, which might begin production next year.

MORE:

During his exclusive interview with Yvette Nicole Brown for The Talking Dead, Lincoln offered some interesting hints about Rick’s future.

‘And I like the idea that we get to tell a bigger story, maybe with a sort of wider vista. And I’ve always been interested in what’s going on out there, you know, whether or not there is contact with the wider world. I want to know the meta of it all. And I suppose to be able to kind of touch upon that in a contained story for me is a very exciting proposition … Maybe it’s the start of a bigger story.’

So while his allies and daughter Judith think he’s dead, Rick will be far removed from them exploring an entirely new terrain. Will Rick rely on his old tactics and look to restart a community or will this new setting force him to devise a different strategy? The possibilities are very intriguing. And maybe this could lead to Rick popping up in Fear the Walking Dead?

What do you think of this reveal? Are you excited for more Rick Grimes in Walking Dead movies?
