DC Comics reviews for 1/9/19
Adventures of the Super Sons #6
While it seemed odd to have the latest issue of Adventures of Super Sons come out the same week as Young Justice #1, Jon and Damian’s galactic escapade doesn’t take a back seat to any new release.
Stuck on an alien planet Superboy and Robin have to contend with a lack of food, shelter, mysterious creatures and the return of a longtime nemesis. And the surprise arrival of an old school DC hero.
Writer Peter J. Tomasi reached deep into DC lore for this issue’s guest star. That’s been part of the fun of this series. Tomasi keeps the surprises and fringe character appearances coming.
This encounter won’t exactly go well for the boys and they learn their previous unintentional actions might cost them dearly.
Artist Scott Godlewski has filled in well and his work continues to improve. Godlewski tends to have some trouble drawing character faces, but his pages here reflect an artist who’s honing his craft.
Adventures of the Super Sons might not be the most vital book of the week, but it continues to be one of DC’s most pleasant and entertaining reads.
