Nightwing #46

Plotter Scott Lindell and script writer Fabian Nicieza probably could have milked the apathetic Ric Grayson storyline a bit longer, but they take the right path in evolving this story.

No the end of this first arc doesn’t end with Ric suddenly becoming Nightwing again, but it does take another interesting turn.

Det. Sapienza and his squad of Nightwing stand-ins have barely held their own against common criminals so when Scarecrow arrives, they’re in over their heads. Ric watches from the sidelines and decides he can’t be an observer any longer.

I didn’t see this new development going and it’s a good one. What’s already been established still matters while paving the way for some new paths.

It’d be nice for the book to get some stability in terms of artists. This issue Davide Gianfelice steps up. Gianfelice’s art is OK, but it’s a bit too cartoonish for the title. The frustrating thing is Nightwing has had good artists that are solid fits for the book, but they do one or two issues and go on to another series.

This tweak in directions was exactly what Nightwing needed to keep this new status quo from becoming too stale.
