The Batman officially slated for release in 2021 without Affleck

This was one of those cases where there was too much smoke to ignore the fire. After much speculation, Warner Bros. all but made it official that Matt Reeves’ The Batman will arrive in theaters June 25, 2021.

The other big announcement was the official reveal that Ben Affleck won’t be part of the film. Initially, Affleck was slated to direct/write/star in the Batman spinoff as his fourth time playing The Dark Knight.

When Reeves was brought on board, Affleck’s roles continued to diminish. Ultimately, Reeves decided on telling an early story in Batman’s career, which meant Affleck wouldn’t exactly work.

Affleck tweeted that he was excited to see what Reeves has in store.

Now the search begins for a new Bruce Wayne. I’m hopeful that this isn’t the last time we see Affleck as Batman though. And I really wish someone at Warner Bros. would convince Michael Keaton to sign back up for a Batman Beyond film.
